Welcome
On behalf of the organising committee and the Australasian Board of ASSID (Australasian Society for the Study of Intellectual Disability), we would like to extend an invitation to you to attend the 44th ASSID Conference to be held at Wrest Point Convention Centre in November 2009.
The mission of ASSID is to “enhance the skills, knowledge and commitment of it's members and to facilitate a supportive network in order to enhance the quality of life of people with intellectual or developmental disability”.
The goals of ASSID are to:
- Promote the research and understanding of intellectual disability
- Bring together people with an interest in the field of intellectual disability
- Promote high standards of practice in the field of intellectual disability
We believe that our theme for this conference Power and Passion: Progress through Partnerships encompasses the mission and goals of ASSID by ensuring that the research undertaken in relation to progressing the understanding of disabilities is properly partnered with the practices put in place to ensure people with an intellectual disability are provided with the most rewarding life experiences available.
In late 2008 and we will be launching our Call for Papers/Registration book but we encourage you to start preparing early and marking the dates of 4 – 6 November 2009 in your diary.
Whilst Wrest Point is a fantastic location for a conference including a variety of accommodation styles, fine dinning and of course the casino, we invite you to also spend some extra time travelling around Tasmania and taking in the breathtaking landscape, the diverse wildlife, the unique history, the highly acclaimed Salamanca Markets and the rich diversity of culture which is Tasmania.
We look forward to hosting this exiting event and seeing you in Hobart in 2009.
