MAJOR SPONSOR
We are a not-for-profit organisation committed to providing a safe and supportive environment for vulnerable people in our community. Our services specifically support children and young people needing foster care, people with a disability, and people with a mental health issue, including those from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander backgrounds.
We operate throughout Australia and are now established in New Zealand. We pursue the philosophy that positive, healthy relationships are essential for people in care to feel safe and have an opportunity to improve their lives.
Our focus always has been that our clients should receive care within their community, not outside of it, and that the healthy relationships around them should come first. We believe the most effective and most appropriate method of providing our services is to empower and support individuals, organisations and communities in providing the services they need.

People First NZ
Nga Tangata Tuatahi
Self-advocacy Organisation
“Nothing about us without us”
People First members prefer to use the term ‘learning disability’ Rather than intellectual disability.
There are People First groups all over the world and throughout New Zealand.
The national and local governments and service providers ask People First to help them make sure the best services are provided for people with a learning disability. We also offer ‘Learning How To Speak-up Courses’ to all people with learning disability.
The People First self-advocacy organisation is ‘user-led’, with assistance. We show society how much people with learning disability can do if we are given the chance. We also work out good ways to support people with learning disability.
We are very proud of what we achieve. It is powerful for others to see us running an organization ourselves – it changes people’s whole expectation about what people with learning disability can do.
