WELCOME
On behalf
of the organising committee and the Australasian Board of ASSID (Australasian Society for the Study of Intellectual Disability), we would like to extend an invitation to you to attend the 44th ASSID Conference to be held at Wrest Point Convention Centre in November 2009.
The mission of ASSID is to “enhance the skills, knowledge and commitment of it's members and to facilitate a supportive network in order to enhance the quality of life of people with intellectual or developmental disability”.
The goals of ASSID are to:
- Promote the research and understanding of intellectual disability
- Bring together people with an interest in the field of intellectual disability
- Promote high standards of practice in the field of intellectual disability
We believe that our theme for this conference Power and Passion: Progress through Partnerships encompasses the mission and goals of ASSID by ensuring that the research undertaken in relation to progressing the understanding of disabilities is properly partnered with the practices put in place to ensure people with an intellectual disability are provided with the most rewarding life experiences available.
Whilst Wrest Point is a fantastic location for a conference including a variety of accommodation styles, fine dinning and of course the casino, we invite you to also spend some extra time travelling around Tasmania and taking in the breathtaking landscape, the diverse wildlife, the unique history, the highly acclaimed Salamanca Markets and the rich diversity of culture which is Tasmania.
We look forward to hosting this exiting event and seeing you in Hobart in November 2009.
Craig Jones & Darryleen Wiggins

FASCIA National Disability Conference Funding Program
The Organising Committee for the 44th ASSID conference has been successful in securing funding of $4300.00 from The National Disability Conference Funding Program. This funding is being utilised to support an international Keynote Presenter with a disability and a person in the entertainment industry with a disability, in order to enrich the quality of the conference program for all delegates and to allow the participation of these speakers.
We have provided a reduced “concession registration” fee to assist other delegates with a disability to attend.
