Gabriele Voigt

Ms. Gabriele Voigt, born in 1952, is a biologist and holds a doctorate in genetics, microbiology, and biochemistry. She habilitated from the University of Munich in Ecological Chemistry and is lecturing at the Atominstitut of the Technical University in Vienna. She has worked as a radioecologist since more than 25 years in the field of nuclear sciences and environmental management, first at the Institute of Radiation Hygiene of the German Federal Health Office and later at the Institute of Radiation Protection in the GSF-Research Center for Environment and Health, both located in Neuherberg near Munich, Germany.
Since 2002 she has been the director of the Agency’s Laboratories Vienna and Headquarters in Seibersdorf and Vienna. She is responsible for the programme on Management of the terrestrial environment and is the focal point for environmental activities in the Agency. Her interests are: transfer of radionuclides to plants and animals in agricultural and semi-natural and aquatic ecosystems, countermeasures and remediation strategies, dose reconstruction, modelling transfer of radionuclides via food chains to humans, environmental decision support systems and the application of radioecological models for non-radioactive pollutants. She is one associate editor of the Journal of Environmental Radioactivity, and a referee to several international journals. She is strongly involved in activities concerning gender equality and she is an elected member of a variety of external and internal scientific committees.
Dr Geza Benke
Dr Geza Benke has a BSc (Physics), MAppSc (Environmental Engineering) and a PhD (Epidemiology). He is a Certified Occupational Hygienist (COH), Fellow and current President Elect of the Australian Institute of Occupational Hygienists. Dr Benke is currently Senior Research Fellow with the Centre for Occupational and Environmental Health, Department of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine, Monash University, Victoria. Since 1989 Dr Benke has undertaken research in a range of occupational and environmental epidemiology studies, investigating non-ionizing radiation and cancer. He is also currently involved in the Morpheus study, a study investigating Mobile phone exposure and cognitive function in teenagers. This study is funded by the National Health and Medical Research Council through the Australian Centre for Radiofrequency Bioeffects Research (ACRBR). Dr Benke is funded by an NHMRC career development award. Other areas of research include respiratory disease and exposure assessment methodology.
Dr Benke will be presenting a workshop entitled: "EMF exposure and cancer clusters: An epidemiological perspective"
