Invitation To Attend
Welcome to all members of ARPS and radiation safety enthusiasts whether working in the field
or in supporting industries. The Western Australian branch is proud to announce the 34th annual
conference
of the Australasian Radiation Protection Society (ARPS) is to be held in the wonderful
seaside town of Fremantle, from Sunday 25 to Wednesday 28 October 2009, at the beautiful
Esplanade Hotel.
The conference event will include an interesting array of presentations relating to Radiation
Protection
and of course include a Welcome Reception preceding the conference to be held at the
Little Creatures “Loft” and an official conference dinner will be held on Tuesday 27 October 2009 at
the Maritime Museum
of Western Australia. A Post conference technical tour to Tiwest's Mineral Sands Processing Plant will
take place on Thursday 29 October 2009.
It is recognised that the Western Australian mining and mineral processing industry contributes to
50% of Australia’s total value of mineral and petroleum sales and to over 30% of Australia’s total
merchandise exports – therefore one of the main focuses of the conference will be on the radiation
protection in the mining and minerals processing industry. We expect that papers presented
during the 2009 conference will address issues associated with the presence of Naturally
Occurring Radioactive Materials (NORM) in many minerals and their potential concentration in
different process streams and the environment, as well as the use of different types of industrial
radiography and X-ray equipment in mineral exploration, mining, processing and analytical
laboratories.
We look forward to receiving your registration to attend what is promised to be
another successful and enjoyable ARPS conference.
