This conference is now over

Thank you to all delegates who attended the ASAM Conference in Darwin, it was a great event, and we acknowledge our keynote presenters, Dr James Vanderploeg and Mr Mike Allsop, and to our after dinner speaker, Col Randy Reynolds - thank you for your presentations and contribution.

Thank you to our two major sponsors, the ATSB and CASA, and our breakfast sponsor Defence Recruiting.

A reminder to delegates to complete the online survey, we'd love to receive your feedback so that we can prepare for a better conference in Fiji in 2009.

See you in Fiji.

Invitation to Attend

The Australasian Society of Aerospace Medicine is the authoritative professional body whose role is to cultivate and promote aerospace medicine and related disciplines in Australasia. Comprising more than 800 members from many fields of medical practice, the Society has been in existence for nearly 60 years and has provided professional development for its members by hosting successful scientific meetings each year.

As Chairman of the Organising Committee for the 2008 conference I would like to invite all those interested in the field of aerospace medicine to attend our next Annual Scientific Meeting to be held in Darwin, Northern Territory from 14-17 August 2008. This will be the first time the Society has convened a conference in Darwin, so it should provide a perfect opportunity to take advantage of one of Australia’s premier tourist regions, allowing delegates to explore the extraordinary beauty of our “top end”, while at the same time furthering their professional knowledge and skills.

In keeping with the frontier location of our conference, we have chosen a theme slightly different to previous years – “Frontiers of Aerospace Medicine”. Hopefully this will allow us to be brought up to date on the latest news and cutting edge developments in the field of aerospace medicine. It will allow a wide variety of topic areas to be covered from clinical aerospace medicine, case presentations, aviation human factors, physiology, aeromedical retrieval, remote area medicine and indigenous health, and accident investigation.  This year we are fortunate to have Dr James Vanderploeg from Wyle Life Sciences Group join us and deliver the John Lane Oration. Dr Vanderploeg, a senior member of the Wyle team, serves as Virgin Galactic’s chief medical officer. In this role he provides advice and guidance concerning medical history evaluations, training requirements, and protocols and strategies relating to Virgin Galactic’s aerospace medical needs.

As usual there will be a CASA session for Designated Aviation Medical Examiners. I would encourage DAMEs to submit papers on any difficult and interesting aircrew cases they have encountered in their clinical practice.

The Conference Organising Committee, and the Federal Committee of ASAM look forward to welcoming you to Darwin for what promises to be a professional rewarding and socially enjoyable meeting in the spectacular surroundings of the Northern Territory.
