It is my pleasure as Chair, National NRM Regions Working Group and Chair, NRM South, Tasmania to welcome you to the NRM Regions Chairs' Forum to be held in Hobart from 22 April to 24 April 2009. The Forum is sponsored by the Natural Resources Management Ministerial Council and provides an opportunity for Chairs from Australia's 56 regional NRM bodies to meet with the Council to discuss NRM policy and other issues.
This is the seventh Forum and each year we build on the lessons from previous years. Following feedback from the Melbourne 2008 Forum we have planned a field trip for the afternoon of the 22 April – this is to provide you with an opportunity to meet with other Chairs from around Australia in an informal setting and also allow Tasmania to showcase some of its magnificent natural resources and our efforts to protect those resources.
A formal welcome dinner will be held on the evening of the 22 April. On Thursday will be dedicated to a facilitated Chairs Forum. Our meeting with the Ministerial Council is scheduled for the morning of Friday 24 April. Following that session we will debrief on the Ministers feedback and identify issues we would like to pursue over 2009/10.
