DAY ONE – WORKSHOPS & PRESENTATIONS
Case Studies will take place on the first day of the conference and will follow an expert keynote speaker who will broadly introduce each theme before delegates break into workshops to participate in the workshop presentations.
Day One - Case Study Themes
Stretching the Boundaries
Is there anything that volunteers cannot do? What
innovative mechanisms have you developed to support
volunteers getting out there, taking on new challenges,
making a difference? What are some of those new,
exciting, adventurous, inspiring things that volunteers
are doing, that we all love to do? Out in the far flung
wilds, with unique or endangered wildlife; assisting
with crucial conser vation research, or managing sites
of cultural significance? We are looking for innovative
programs and projects that motivate and inspire people
to become volunteers for the environment. Can anyone
really claim that something is too hard (physically or
intellectually) for volunteers?
Getting Involved, Staying Involved
– Fostering Volunteering
Why do people get involved in
volunteering? Why volunteer?
What do you do to encourage your
members to see volunteering as a
life-long commitment? Are there
ways of working together to better
attract and support volunteers?
In This Together-Building Partnerships
Volunteers never work alone. We suppor t others, we
work alongside others; and together we care for the
natural and cultural environment; for wildlife and for
reserves. Who are your par tners – In government, in
business, in the community? How do you encourage
government, business and community to join with
you? What opportunities do you offer to your partners,
to attract them and continue to develop a strong
relationship? What have you managed to do together
that you would never get done alone? How are you
better able to make a difference as a result of working
together? What has worked for you that will help
others to build strong partnerships?
DAY TWO - OPEN SPACE MANAGEMENT WORKSHOP
“What are the secrets to building productive, resilient volunteer organisations, networks, and programs to protect, conserve and manage reserves
and natural and cultural heritage?”
This session is designed for those who have a passion or idea that will help us to answer the above question. If you are willing to share and build on an idea and passion, have an issue that could use some innovative solutions or would simply like to know more about a particular topic, this is the workshop for you.
We will not require submitted Abstracts for this session - This is your chance to convene and/or participate in a discussion workshop with other interested people that will
help us all to better understand how to build and maintain strong, supportive and productive relationships, organisation, networks and programs to protect, conserve
and manage reserves and natural and cultural heritage. All topics raised by delegates that explore answers to the questions will become a part of the workshop agenda
and timetable to the day. Each workshop will have a time slot of 45 minutes. You can attend as many or as few workshops as you wish and you need only to participate in
discussions you are most interested.
To place a topic onto the timetable, you will need to:
✽ Be present on the morning of Day 2 with topic in mind
✽ Be prepared to convene your discussion/workshop
✽ Be prepared to share with and listen to others
✽ Record outcomes of the discussion during the workshop (handwritten records)
WHAT IS OPEN SPACE FORMAT?
In Open Space meetings, participants create
and manage their own agenda of parallel
working sessions around a central theme.
